A man returns to his boyhood home after 20 years to reconnect with his remaining family. But all is not as it should be – bloody secrets abound and no one recognizes the long lost son. Will his reluctance to reveal himself prove to be his undoing? Inspired by the works and ideas of existential philosopher Albert Camus, STRANGER THINGS utilizes original music to delve into the emotional undercurrent of the isolated individual.

Conceived and directed by RONNIE CLARK, with original music composed by DAVID O.  This play was devised in workshop by the Ensemble.

REVIEWS

“Strindberg meets Rod Serling… the show’s somber, claustrophobic tone is leavened by dry wit, and just when the story seems predictable, it twists into something genuinely chilling.”
–LA Times

“It certainly looks and feels compelling, from designer Maureen Weiss’ whitewashed, plank-heavy, skeletal set and striking projections—under Chris Wojcieszyn’s film-noir-evocative lighting—to Cricket S. Myers’ complex sound design. David O’s original music, performed by him at the piano, promises much in the way of anachronistic oddness and frissons. Furthermore, the four actors are committed to the stranger things on their respective plates.”
–Back Stage

“Clark’s direction of Stranger Things is precise, effective, and brimming with beautiful aesthetic details: timing is used to imply page turns; color differentiates realms; and lighting is used to convey warmth and apathy. Impressionist music, steely drawings, and austere characters transform grim abstractions into a conceptual drama where the art itself slowly siphons off individuals members of a creepy family. The collaboratively written work blurs reality and dimensions through themes of guilt, lingering disappointment, secrecy, and betrayal.”
–LAist

“Eerie spellbinder filled with stark bleakness – as surprising as it is haunting. Remarkable scenic and projection design by Maureen Weiss, brilliant lighting by the Chris Wojcieszyn, and excellent original score by David O! A must see.”
–-Sid Fish, Beverly Hills Directory.

“Many moments are positively chilling – and the immersive soundscape holds the audience captive for the duration of this spectacularly layered tale. David O’s underscoring sweeps seamlessly into Cricket S. Myers’ soundscape of whirling winds, haunting whispers, and gasping breaths that still echo in my head today.”
