Orestes, after murdering his mother, Clytemnestra, in revenge for the murder of his father Agamemnon, is tormented by his actions. This torment comes in the form of the three furies; old family friends and confidantes of Clytemnestra. The furies dredge up old photo albums and family stories in order to pour salt in the wound of an already guilty son. In the streets, the populace are in an uproar over their murdered leader and opinion is divided on Orestes’ guilt or innocence. The movers and shakers of this world, Apollo and Athena, compete to exact some form of justice from the rubble.
“When you’re taking a whack at a Greek tragedy, it doesn’t hurt to bring a sense of humor to the table. That’s something Katherine Noon and her intrepid ensemble the Ghost Road Company understand , to their audience’s benefit . . . Noon’s sure hand is evident in this smooth transition from laboratory to stage.” –Los Angeles Times, March 9, 2007
